YYDC Summer Intensive + Audition

Get a closer look of artistic director and choreographer Yin Yue's signature FoCo Technique training, in depth study of the repertoire, experience the creative process and an opportunity to audition for the upcoming evening length creation Citizen II in the summer 2020.

About the Event

The Summer Intensive + Audition will be hosted by YY Dance Company at Mark Morris Dance Center Cole Studio. The daily FoCo Technique training and creative process will be taught and choreographed by artistic director Yin Yue and repertoire(s) study will be taught by the company's rehearsal director Grace Whitworth. 

The daily intensive schedule is the following:

10:00 -12:00: Yin Yue will lead FoCo Technique training session everyday by going through each element Triggering, Mapping, Rooting in a “stream of consciousness” follow along in which students are led by Yin to create awareness in muscular structure, familiarize with rhythmic pattern, generate heat in the body and build stamina in both mind and body in order to achieve mindful and intelligent practice. Sequences of exercises will be taught in training to further explore the essence of the technique and utilize the elements in small phrase works. 

12:00 -1:00: Lunch break (Lunch discussion with Yin and Grace about the creative process, artistic background, choreographic experience and Q&A will be held on Wednesday and Friday)

1:00 - 2:45: Dive into the rehearsal process by learning selected repertoire(s) from the company's rehearsal director Grace Whitworth to experience the choreography, learning the background of the work, sharing knowledge with the fellow dancers and enjoying the performance. The selection of repertoire (s) will be announced soon. 

2:45 - 3:15: Short Break

3:15 - 5:00: Gearing up the creative flow with Yin to experiment new movement creation, concept research, character development and narrative composition in preparation of the company's new production CITIZEN II, a sequel to the 2019 work CITIZEN, the new work will create an opportunity to look into the world from juxtaposition perspectives. The research toward the creation during the intensive will create a platform where dancers can truly immersed in a creative process that best demonstrates the company practice, choreographic value and the ideal team work environment.
